Four women, each yearning for escape, find their lives forever changed in the enchanting Italian countryside.

In post-World War I England, Lotty Wilkins and Rose Arbuthnot impulsively respond to an advertisement for a secluded castle in Italy, seeking refuge from their humdrum lives. Joining them are Lady Caroline, a glamorous socialite seeking solitude, and Mrs. Fisher, a widowed matron longing for the past.

As the women bask in the golden beauty of San Salvatore, the sunshine and serenity awaken long-buried dreams, kindle unexpected friendships, and inspire transformations they never imagined possible.

I’ve always had a soft spot for women’s fiction that whisks me away to beautiful, old-world settings, and The Enchanted April absolutely delivered on that front. I adore stories where women step into spaces that allow them to rediscover themselves, and the novel’s retreat to an Italian castle was exactly the kind of setting I love—romantic, secluded, and almost magical in its atmosphere.

Sunlight, flowers, and unexpected friendships made this story feel like a gentle escape, and I loved how it left me in a brighter mood than when I started.

The Enchanted April felt like a quiet escape. It’s not loud or dramatic, but it slowly warms you up. I didn’t expect to connect with it, but the way it captures the need for peace, space, and a bit of beauty really hit me. It’s gentle, funny in moments, and surprisingly comforting.
