I admired the elegance of The Great Gatsby—the writing is beautiful, the mood unforgettable—but I never connected with the characters. For me, it’s less a love story and more a sharp look at emptiness behind wealth and glamour.

It’s a beautifully written book with some truly unforgettable lines, but the slow, minimal plot makes it harder to stay emotionally invested. The characters are intentionally flawed, yet they’re so unlikable that it’s difficult to care what happens to them. The dialogue is sometimes brilliant, sometimes unnatural, which can break the immersion. In the end, it’s a novel I admire more than I actually enjoy—worth reading once, but not one I’d rush to revisit.
