The Silent House

by Fergus Hume

"A house with a haunted past. A murder behind a locked door. The silence is about to break."

Young barrister Lucian Denzil has just settled into quiet Geneva Square when he notices the house next door No. 13, shuttered and shunned by the neighbors. Decades ago, a gruesome murder took place inside. Now a reclusive, troubled man named Mark Berwin lives there alone, and the locals whisper that the house is haunted.

Then a new crime shatters the silence. What looks like an open-and-shut case quickly unravels into a maze of mistaken identities, hidden motives, and fresh secrets buried beneath old ones. Every answer Lucian finds only raises darker questions—and the silent house at the center of it all refuses to give up its dead.
